The Durham-based team player Keaton Jennings scored a century in his first Test cricket debut against India on Thursday. He has the South African accent and most of his cricketing heroes were in Australian but he feels “Very English”. First Test Century Debut for Keaton Jennings.
He spoke first time since his debut to England squad after joining as they began their preparation for the fourth test against Indian team on Thursday.
He was the 11th opening partner for Alastair Cook since the Andrew Straus’s departure and he has been called to the team after another test debut Haseeb Hameed’s finger injury.
This test debut will be completing a remarkable rise for Keaton who just only scraped into qualify for English Cricket team before the Wales and England Cricket Board raised qualification time to seven years in 2012.
His father, Ray was a former South African coach and Jennings captained the South African under-19s team on a tour to England in the year of 2011 but he said, he concentrated on playing for England after joining the Durham academy following his under 19s trip to UK. Also, he confirmed that he wishes to stay in Durham for the next season.
